Transfer lifetime to a new TiVo HD
Just learned that TiVo is allowing TiVo HD buyers with an existing lifetime service on an older TiVo to transfer the lifetime service to the new TiVo HD for just $199. As with past lifetime transfers, you get a free year of service on the old box... and beyond that free year, should be able to get the multi-unit discount rate. (The offer terms say "This offer is not elgible for multi-service discount," but it's not clear what that's in reference to.)

The new offer expires November 8th.

( More details and pre-qualify step... )

I'm actually pretty surprised by this, since the word was that there wouldn't be any more lifetime transfer offers, but I guess this is a good way to get slightly reluctant purchasers to make the jump. I have two TiVos with lifetime, and I wonder if I can do this transfer if I earn a TiVo HD for free through the TiVo Rewards program! (The second step of buying the TiVo HD for $299 may not be an actual condition of the offer, but it does look as though you may need to buy your TiVo HD from TiVo through this offer. The terms refer to a non-existent tivo.com web page you must buy from.) I just need three more referrals to have enough points. (Thanks to JP for last night's referral! Always happy to accept more... using MHA at the 14850.com domain!)

If I can't earn a free TiVo HD and then transfer my lifetime service through this offer, it would probably make sense to just pay for service. At the half-price multi-unit discount, it'd take a long time for the monthly fee to pass $199.

Should note that the TiVo must have been activated prior to October 1, 2003.

Oh, interesting limitation! I had seen that but didn't think much about it. Both my lifetime boxes were activated in 2005. Poo!
